Karma Yoga is one of the chapters of the Sri Bhagavad Gita. This is the dialogue between Shri Krsna & Warrior Arjun between the Battle of Kauravas & Pandavas in Mahabharata.
Karma meaning Action, deed, ritual action, religious observance or duty; the cosmic law of balance effective in the sphere of morality which operates in this life & through successive lives as a kind of natural ‘’law of redistribution” for human actions on the principle “ as you have sown so you shall reap”
Karma Yoga is a spiritual path which leads your karma or action toward the enlightenment or superconsciousness.
Below are the verses from Gita about Karma & Karma-Yoga. Lord Krsna explains about Karma Yoga to Arjun for the attainment of Supreme.
“Krsna saying to Arjuna”
Verse 1:
naiva tasya krtenartho
nakrteneha kascana
na casya sarva-bhutesu
kascid artha-vyapasrayah
A self-realized man has no purpose to fulfill in the discharge of his prescribed duties, nor has he any reason not to perform such work. Nor has he any need to depend on any other living being.
Verse 2:
tasmad asaktah satatam
karyam karma samacara
asakto hy acaran karma
param apnoti purusah
Therefore, without being attached to the fruits of activities, one should act as a matter of duty; for by working without attachment one attains the Supreme.
Verse 3:
saktah karmany avidvamso
yatha kurvanti bharata
kuryad vidvams tathasaktas
cikirsur loka-sangraham
As the ignorant perform their duties with attachment to results, similarly the learned may also act, but without attachment, for the sake of leading the people on the right path.
Verse 4:
tattva-vit tu maha-baho
guna-karma-vibhagayoh
guna gunesu vartanta
iti matva na sajjate
One who is in a knowledge of the Absolute Truth, O mighty-armed, does not engage himself in the senses and sense gratification, knowing well the differences between work in devotion and work for fruitive results.
